This new larger still life was inspired by an 11x14" painting I did 10 years ago in December 2013, Still Life with Figs, Bleu Cheese, and Temmoku Bottle (the light, the shade), which you can see here. The 2023 composition is loosely a mirror of the one from 2013. I've been painting this bottle since before 2009 and the last time I painted it was in November 2020. (The last time I painted a pomegranate was also in 2020.) This bottle is handmade with tenmoku glaze by Sequoia Miller. #potsinaction #paintingsofhandmadepottery

One of the most prominently featured insects in Byzantine, Gothic and Renaissance painting was the cicada -- as a symbol of prayer, sanctuary and hope. Also, the hazelnut was seen, by the Greeks and Romans, as a symbol of peace and health.
