This painting is part of my "Paintings of Handmade Pottery" project. Read about it here. This is the same bottle made by Sequoia Miller that I've painted a few times before (Still Life with Fig and Tenmoku Bottle, Still Life with Egg and Tenmoku Bottle, and Still Life with Tomato and Tenmoku Bottle). Unlike those paintings, this painting was done with early morning light.

Three Figs in Early Morning Light

One of my favorite things about figs is their gesture, and these particular figs were pretty funny -- they would not stand upright unless I rested them on each other. In the end, the idea for this painting was inspired by one of my all-time favorite films, The Triplettes of Belleville.
