Following the theme of painting objects that were given to me, I always enjoy painting this teacup that belonged to my grandmother and was a gift to me from my mom.

This painting (along with 15 others) is on view this month as part of my solo exhibition at Gleason Fine Art. The artist reception is tonight; if you are in the area, stop by to say hello. Hope you enjoy the new work.

All my best,

I just returned from painting and traveling in Barcelona. I'm sorting through my photos, and will soon be posting my new Spain paintings at auction. I'll also share photos and some stories about my travels, so if you're interested and would like direct access to that (as well as large detail views of my paintings), join me (it's free).

LAST CALL: There are just a couple spots remaining in my workshop this weekend at the Peto Museum, so sign up ASAP. If you're considering it, here are photos from my recent workshop and here's what my past workshop participants have to say about working with me.

During my workshop at the Peto Museum, I'll be using Peto's actual still life objects in my still life during my painting demonstration. I've studied a bunch of his objects, and I think I've narrowed it down to a couple of darker colored jugs. (What an honor...)

Before I post about what's on my mind today, I want to share that the Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts (CCAHA) in Philadelphia is hosting an open house tomorrow. I was introduced to the CCAHA last November when I had them repair my dad's first edition copy of The Tower of Babel by Thomas Merton (with woodcuts by Gerhard Marcks, a noted Bauhaus artist) and published in 1957. They did a fabulous job, and the CCAHA is a pretty amazing place to visit. The projects they've completed are remarkable.

Anyway, the open house is happening to celebrate their 35 years of preserving the world's cultural heritage (hundreds of thousands of paper-based artifacts, including historic manuscripts, rare books, beautiful fine art, and fragile photographs). More information on the behind-the-scenes tour here.

Last but not least, I want to share with you this song by David Mallett (introduced to me by my dad :). You can watch Mallett perform it here.

It's called "Artist In Me." I believe we are all artists, in some form, somewhere inside.
Why do I fly why do I fall
It must be the artist in me
Guess it's just the artist in me
Why am I amazed at the wonder of it all
Guess it's just the artist in me
